Our next General Meeting....
Tuesday, August 25, 2026
Social time at noon, meeting starts at 12:30 pm
Blairsville First Methodist Church, across from Meeks Park.
Our ZOOM speaker will be Timna Tarr, from Massachusetts, talking about "What ifs," "Working in a Series," and a showing us some of her quilts. Visit her web page gallery at https://www.timnatarr.com/ and take a look at her art quilt, collage quilt style!
On September 22, 2026, the Misty Mountain Quilters Guild will host Vicki McCarty of Calico Patch Designs for a trunk show of her work and designs. Vicki learned to quilt from her grandmother over 40 years ago in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Her style is described as Refined Traditional: brightening and simplifying traditional designs, techniques and colors, giving them a fresh feel. A popular designer and speaker, Vicki lectures nationwide. Her work and designs have appeared in numerous publications. She designs fabric for Riley Blake Designs and recently collaborated with WonderFil to create a thread line.
Vicki McCarty will follow with a workshop on September 23, 2026, 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Union County Civic Center, 165 Wellborn Street, Blairsville, GA 30512. Participants will work on a wool applique project, Quilter’s Pride, using a kit designed and provided by Vicki. She will share her practical approach and techniques for applique, fusing, stitching and embellishment. Cost is $10 for Misty Mountain Quilters Guild members ($20 for nonmembers) plus the kit cost of $33. A copy of the project is pictured above: the classic black sewing machine with floral embellishment.

Our April speaker was Bob Purcell, of YLI Threads, who came in on Zoom. He knows an amazing amount about thread and needles! He has a great 12-page "Thread Mastery Institute" booklet in .pdf format that you might want to read. It's full of great information, and he'll take questions via Zoom.
